Harold R. Drinkwater, service and obituary

A graveside assistance for Harold R. Drinkwater, 89, who died on November 19, 2020, will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 10 a.m., at Mountain Look at Cemetery in Camden.  

Harold is the husband of Dorothy Bryant Drinkwater.

CAMDEN — Harold R. Drinkwater, 89, died on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the Sussman House in Rockport after various months of declining well being. 

Born in Searsmont on February 11, 1931, he was the son of Robie and Bertha (Butler) Drinkwater, and moved to Camden at the age of three.  Harold started off faculty at the Knowlton Avenue grade college and graduated from Camden High College in 1949. 

In May 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Sergeant even though serving 14 months in Korea. 

Subsequent his military services support, Harold went to get the job done at the Knox Woolen Mill where by he labored for 38 a long time functioning machinery, foreman, and supervisor. Soon after the mill, he also labored various decades for L.O. Gross & Son in Camden.

On April 30, 1955, Harold married Dorothy Bryant.  In August of 1955, Harold acknowledged an invitation from then Fire Chief Alan Payson to be a part of the Camden Fire Office.  At that time, the switch out gear for firemen consisted of a helmet, boots and a rubber rain coat. 

He put in 30 many years as an assistant main, and 19 a long time as fire law enforcement under chiefs Dick Moody, Bruce Hensler, Steve Gibbons, Bob Oxton, and Chief Chris Farley.  

In the course of his 58th year, the Camden Fire Section shocked Harold in naming their newest fireplace truck after him. 

Harold was also a member of the Camden American Legion Publish #30 and Amity Masonic Lodge.  Harold liked baseball and experienced been a gifted pitcher in significant faculty and also in the men’s adult softball league in Camden.    He also liked looking and fishing in his younger a long time and was a good caregiver for his spouse, Dorothy. 

Harold was predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence Drinkwater, Walter Drinkwater, and niece, Julie Drinkwater Landwehr.  Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Drinkwater sister, Maxine Simmons sister-in-legislation, Glenna Drinkwater, 3 nephews, Charles L. Simmons III, Kurt Drinkwater, and Todd Drinkwater. 

A graveside assistance will be declared in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may possibly be built to Atlantic Motor Organization #2, 31 Washington Road, Camden, ME 04843, or to the Camden Region Meals Pantry, 128 Mt. Battie Road, Camden, ME 04843.
