Peter Bourne Moody
WELLS – Peter Bourne Moody passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on June 13, 2021 at 6:49 p.m. He was born June 21, 1933 to Wesley Kenneth Moody and Doris Bourne Moody, and was the older twin of Hope Moody Shelley of Wells.
Peter grew up in Wells, Maine and often lived on Post Road, first at his parents’ residence then developing his have property a handful of heaps absent in 1958 wherever he lived until eventually his passing. He attended the Wells faculty technique graduating salutatorian (his twin sister Hope was Valedictorian) in 1952. He then went to MacIntosh School in Dover, NH for Architecture.
In 1948, Peter was participating in basketball at Wells Substantial School and found a 7th grader name Glenis Darling in the stands. 4 several years his junior, he was smitten and they started relationship till they were being married on September 26, 1958. They had been married for 62 decades and experienced 4 little ones. Peter Bourne Moody Jr (Judy) of Wells, Penny Moody Freeman (Steve Warner) of Cape Neddick, Patrick John Moody (Amy) of Wells, and Pamela Moody-Maxon (Shane) of Wells. He had 14 grandchildren-Dustin & Lindsey Freeman, Abigail Johnson, Jacob & Hannah Moody, Nicki, Wesley, Kristina, & Haley Moody, and Brody, Maren, Kendall, Payton, & Piper Maxon. He also experienced a single Wonderful Grandson-Gage Johnson.
In the 1950’s, Peter began performing as a volunteer & then a paid out fireman at Wells Beach Hose Organization the place he was involved with the establishment of the ambulance company and held many positions throughout the fireplace section which includes being the Fire Main. He worked & volunteered right until the hose company was closed in the late 1980’s. He focused heaps of time & enjoy to the Wells Seaside Hose Firm even now becoming the Treasurer until eventually his dying. Just one of his biggest enjoys was competing in the Fireman’s Industry Days where by he ran the ladder, and a person season went undefeated.
Peter also was a proficient builder and with his father created several households in the spot. He cherished his reminiscences setting up with his uncles, father, and their pals and instructed stories about all those decades generally. After his open-heart surgical procedure at 80 Years aged he decided to construct his 3rd barn to retail outlet his many antique automobiles.
In 1962, Peter & his wife purchased land on Webhannet Drive wherever he & Glenis developed & ran Moody’s Cottages for 38 Several years until their daughter Penny took more than for the subsequent 20 many years. Their Grandson Dustin now owns the cottages keeping them in the family members for 3 Generations.
Peter was into drag racing driving his 1940 Ford Coupe in his youth both at Ogunquit Beach front & at the New England Dragway at Sanford Airport and he was only defeated two times. Those 2 moments were being the only moments his spouse Glenis attended so she was not permitted any longer. He also enjoyed racing and increasing heck on Mile Street, Eldridge Road, and any other road he could race an individual on.
Peter experienced a passion for basketball and spoke fondly of his years playing basketball for Wells and then on the city teams in his adult hood. He was a pure shooter and in 1951, he traveled to Portland and competed in the foul taking pictures contest for the Point out of Maine and created 47 of 50 foul pictures. He was incredibly proud that his young children & grandchildren shared in his passion for basketball, and he took a good deal of satisfaction watching his kids and grandkids good results on the courtroom. Just one of his last wishes to his Grand-daughters was to preserve actively playing tough & he’d be watching from throughout the road (at the cemetery).
Peter liked antique Ford cars and loved restoring them to their original grander. He was a member of the Maine Obsolete Automobile League (MOALS) and put in yrs traveling to antique car or truck shows all around the United States. He restored a great number of cars around the years alongside with peddle cars and trucks & gasoline pumps. Last month, Peter introduced his not too long ago restored “dream car that he usually required to build”, a 1911 Model T Touring Automobile to the MOALS Car or truck Clearly show at Wells Harbor. He & his car or truck ended up awarded Initially Location and he was showcased in the most new MOALS Car or truck Club E-newsletter.
Peter was a prosperity of awareness when it arrived to Wells heritage. He was a typical fixture at the York County Registry of Deeds executing deed research on the town and could recite (for several hours and several hours and several hours) who was connected to whom, when & where by they lived, and when they died all the way back to the 1600’s. His memory was sharp as a whip suitable till his passing.
Peter was really involved in town politics above the many years and was a emphasize of any city assembly equally televised & not. He was on the spending budget board, was 1 of the primary trustees of the Wells Sanitary District, and was on numerous other committees through his a long time. Peter was a member of the Ocean Masonic Lodge.
Working hard was very crucial to Peter. He was a tricky-operating person all his life & was very pleased of all the points he had attained. He also was very pleased of the do the job ethic that had been passed down to his kids.
Pals are invited to pay a visit to with the relatives 3-7PM, Wednesday, June 16th at Bibber Memorial Chapel at 111 Chapel Highway in Wells, Maine. A graveside company will be held 11AM Thursday, June 17th at Oceanview Cemetery, Article Highway, Wells. Peter will be getting his last firetruck trip by way of the town that he loved on the way to the cemetery commencing at 10:15 on Thursday. He will be traveling from the Funeral Dwelling on Chapel Road down Route 1 turning onto Bourne Avenue & then onto Ocean Ave & Webhannet Drive to the Mile Road then to the Cemetery on Route 1. Buddies and spouse and children are invited to line the route if they would like. There will be a celebration of lifestyle at Pam Moody-Maxon & Peter Moody’s houses at 159 Lupine Lane, Wells on what would have been Peter’s 88th Birthday on June 21, 2021 from 4-7PM.
