STRUTHERS — Leroy “Lee” Lewis, 78, passed absent peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2021, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle in Austintown.

Lee was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Youngstown, and was a son of the late Everett R. and Sophie Kotick Lewis.

He graduated from Struthers Superior School in 1962 and attended Fort Scott Junior College, in which he was later recruited for soccer, transferring to the University of Miami in Florida in December 1964. Although enjoying for the Hurricanes, he gained All-Time Letterwinner honors, received the Most Useful Lineman Award in 1965 underneath head mentor Charlie Tate, and played in the Orange Bowl. Lee even now holds two defensive data in soccer for the Hurricanes.

Right after graduating from The College of Miami, Lee taught mechanical drawing at Struthers High School and also was an assistant defensive football coach beneath head coach Bob Cummings.
